What Is Vape Juice?

Vape juice (also called e-liquid or e-juice) is the liquid that gets heated inside a vape device to create vapour. It's made from a mix of vegetable glycerin (VG), propylene glycol (PG), flavouring, and nicotine. The VG/PG ratio matters more than most people think. Higher VG (like 70/30 or 80/20) makes thicker clouds and feels smoother on the throat. Higher PG (like 50/50) carries flavour better and gives a stronger throat hit. Most bottles will list the ratio right on the label.

You'll also see two types of nicotine: freebase and salt nic. Freebase nicotine is the traditional kind — it works well at lower strengths (3mg, 6mg) and pairs with sub-ohm devices that produce big clouds. Salt nic uses a modified form of nicotine that's smoother at higher strengths (20mg, 35mg, 50mg), making it ideal for smaller pod devices. If you're switching from cigarettes, salt nic is usually the easier starting point.

How to Choose the Right Vape Juice

Start with your device. If you use a pod system like STLTH or a small refillable pod, you want salt nic juice in a 50/50 or 60/40 VG/PG ratio. The thinner liquid wicks properly in low-power coils, and the higher nicotine strength means you don't need to vape as often. For sub-ohm tanks and box mods, go with freebase juice in a high-VG ratio — these devices run hot and produce a lot of vapour, so lower nicotine (3mg or 6mg) is plenty.

Flavour is personal, but here's a rough guide: fruit and menthol flavours tend to be the most popular across the board. Dessert and bakery flavours (custard, vanilla, pastry) are great for all-day vaping since they're less intense. Tobacco flavours work well for people transitioning from cigarettes.
